Role Description:

Job Knowledge and Performance –Tool Makers typically work from specifications in the form of sketches, models, blueprints, and computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files. Tool and die makers have thorough knowledge of both automatic and manual computer-numeric controlled machine tools known as CNC machine tools. These professionals are skilled in all aspects of creating machine parts to specifications including turning, milling, shaping, grinding and drilling as well as the testing and finishing of all surfaces. Math skills are a must as tool and die makers are required to be able to calculate dimensions and tolerances of tools created.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Other duties may be assigned:

  • Always assure a safe work environment
  • New Die Build Experience
  • Die Tryout Experience
  • In Press Troubleshooting experience & knowledge of setting punches
  • Basic machining experience (mills, grinders, lathe)
  • Knowledge of using CAD Viewer
  • Good knowledge of progressive and transfer dies
  • Tool Room Housekeeping

Work Environment

Education/Experience/Certifications:

To effectively carry out duties and responsibilities in the job position the following education, experience, or certifications are preferred:

 

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or GED

 

Experience:

Five years of Tool & Die experience

Certifications:

  • Hilo and crane

Additional Skills Required:

Computer skills:

  • Experience with basic computer systems.

 

Communication skills:

  • Speak effectively with fellow employees.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Mathematical skills:

  • Apply mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as basic algebra.

 

Other Skills:

  • Detail oriented.
  • Organized and able to meet deadlines while performing multiple duties.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Able to perform work independently.
